Naturopathy

what happens in an appointment with a naturopath and what do we actually do?

Naturopaths in Australia are degree qualified, having studied a Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) which is four years of full time study, including around 12 months of clinical practice in student clinic. We study human anatomy & physiology, chemistry & biochemistry, herbal medicine and nutritional medicine, pharmacology and herbal pharmacology among others.

Naturopaths treat from a root-cause approach. Every symptom you are experiencing is driven from something else, and our job is to work out what that is. We consider your digestion and gut function, nervous system and stress regulation, hormones, nutrient status, inflammation and lifestyle considerations. We are also interested in your previous health history as this could be contributing to what you’re experiencing.

What happens in an appointment?

Your initial consult will begin with finding out what has been happening in your life recently, when did things change, what symptoms you’re experiencing and a review of your systems (sleep, digestion, mood, skin, energy, medications etc). We will determine your health goals and from there create a personalised plan just for you.

What might a treatment plan include?

Your personalised treatment plan may include any or all of the following:

  • Herbal medicine prescription (if appropriate)

  • Nutrients and supplements specific for you

  • Lifestyle support

  • Dietary suggestions

  • Referrals if necessary - including to the GP, functional pathology or microbiome testing
